Tortworth Court Four Pillars Hotel comes out on top for its green initiatives

Property given Gold Award by Green Tourism

Tortworth Court Four Pillars Hotel is pleased to announce it has been awarded the Gold Award for Green Tourism through the Green Tourism Business Scheme. This outstanding accolade recognises the property’s hard work and dedication to employing sustainable tourism practices throughout the hotel.

The Cotswolds property excelled in areas relating to management and communication of the green initiatives throughout the hotel, as well as its commitment to preserving the flora, fauna and wildlife surrounding the grade II listed Victorian mansion. The achievement also highlights the efforts of the hotel’s ‘Green Team’ which regularly monitors energy and water usage, their close work with the Hawk and Owl Trust and regular studies of the arboretum. The scheme also underlined the fundraising efforts on site carried out by wider staff members.

Mark Payne, General Manager of Tortworth Court Four Pillars Hotel, comments: “We are so proud and delighted of our achievement. It is a testament to the hard work of not only the Green Team but also all of the staff at the property who constantly strive to look for new and innovative ways in which we can minimise the affect we have on the environment. The gold award not only highlights how dedicated we are to being ‘green’ without compromising the standards guests have come to expect.”

The Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) is the largest sustainable tourism certification in the world and is independently validated by the International Centre for Responsible Tourism (ICRT) on behalf of VisitEngland, VisitWales and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and endorsed by VisitScotland and Failte Ireland. Businesses opting to join the scheme are assessed by a qualified grading advisor against a rigorous set of best practice criteria, including management and communication, efficient lighting and heating, nature conservation, use of local crafts and local produce, renewable energy and community support and involvement. The GTBS has over 700 members, all of whom are rigorously assessed and given a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award, depending on the level of energy-efficiency they achieve.

Four Pillars Hotels has a further five properties within its portfolio, including Cotswold Water Park Four Pillars Hotel and Oxford Thames Four Pillars Hotel which also hold the coveted Gold Award for their responsible tourism efforts. Meanwhile, Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel holds a Silver Award and Oxford Witney Four Pillars and Oxford Abingdon Four Pillars Hotel also individually hold a Bronze Award for their ‘green efforts’.
